TCS Lidingöloppet generates money for children’s hospital

Over the past six years, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has contributed almost SEK 1 million to Astrid Lindgren’s Children’s Hospital. The donations have been made in connection with TCS Lidingöloppet. They are used to make the children’s stay at the hospital easier.

TCS Lidingöloppet is the world’s largest cross-country race and a popular festival. In 2022, it takes place at the weekend of 23–25 September, being an eagerly awaited comeback after the pandemic forced the race to go partly virtual.

Since TCS became the Lidingöloppet title and technology sponsor in 2016, the company collaborates with Astrid Lindgren’s Children’s Hospital. This year will be the seventh year running that TCS has made a charitable donation to this children’s hospital at Karolinska University Hospital in Stockholm. So far, TCS has donated close to 1 million Swedish Kronor (SEK). The donation is part of the company’s commitment to TCS Lidingöloppet and an effort to contribute to a better society.

Vibrant and exciting
The donations have helped Astrid Lindgren’s Children’s Hospital get modern and interactive technology. It includes making one of the hospital corridors a rich and exciting experience for the young patients. In addition, the hospital has acquired so-called speaker pillows, which help children listen to music or fairy tales. The hospital also installed a sensor room and an interactive projector wall in the play therapy ward.

“TCS’s donations have helped the hospital give hundreds of sick children an important retreat to a normal life, despite their dire situation,” says Svante Norgren, head of child and women’s health care at Astrid Lindgren’s Children’s Hospital.

“We treat sick children daily,” he adds. “But despite the gloom and misery, the children often laugh a lot. Largely, this is due to the playful environment and the many different activities available for children of all ages.”

Maintains collaboration
The donation is collected in connection with TCS Lidingöloppet. For example, in 2018, SEK 5 were donated per downloaded TCS Lidingöloppet app – an app for those who want to keep up with the event or where they are in the running track. That year, the app was downloaded more than 20,000 times and generated a donation of SEK 165,000.

In 2020 and 2021, the traditional races were cancelled. Still, TCS wanted to maintain the cooperation with the children’s hospital and chose to donate SEK 167,000 in 2020 and SEK 175,000 in 2021.

It is an important initiative for Avinash Limaye, Regional Manager for TCS in the Nordic region. “At TCS Global, there is a strong commitment to the health and well-being of our staff and society at large,” he says. “In Sweden, we have chosen to support Lidingöloppet and Astrid Lindgren’s Children’s Hospital to bring more joy and happiness to the children who receive care and their families.”
