Record attendance and increased interest for the Lidingöloppet in Funäsfjällen

On Saturday, the second Lidingöloppet was organized in Funäsfjällen, in collaboration between Lidingöloppet and Bruksvallarna. 670 runners were registered, which is an increase of 10 percent compared to the inaugural year. National team orienteer Emma Bjessmo took her second consecutive victory, and biathlete Emil Nykvist crushed all opposition in the 20 km race.
The second Lidingöloppet in Funäsfjällen offered sunshine and a warm 25 degrees Celsius. The race consisted of competitive classes of 10 km, 20 km, and 30 km - as well as a children's race.
“Just like last year, it was a fantastic day with really good weather. Despite the challenging heat and course, we saw many strong performances on the running track. The new 30 km route with more mountainous terrain was a very appreciated feature among the runners,” says Krister Svensson, Secretary-General of the Lidingöloppet.
Landscape orienteer Emma Bjessmo, competing for IFK Lidingö SOK, took her second consecutive victory. This time in the slightly shorter distance of 20 km with a time of 1:43:22 - about three minutes ahead of the runner-up Alva Tänglander. Last year she won the 30 km race.
In the men's event at the same distance, the biathlete Emil Nykvist, representing SK Bore, took home the victory in a dominant fashion with a new track record of 1:27:50.
Another dominant orienteer we find in the men's 30 km where Axel Elmblad, a multiple Junior World Championship medalist, won by over six minutes with a time of 2:05:51. On the women's side, Jonna Persson Kjellgren took the victory.
In the short distance 10 km race, Sollefteå's Hannah Karlsson (younger sister to the cross-country star Frida Karlsson) won with a time of 53:16. Offerdal's Alexander Lodin took home the men's competition with a time of 46:45.
